Devices that work with Planet eSIM

Most modern smartphones and tablets support eSIM. Your device must support eSIM and be network unlocked.

Requirements at a glance

  • eSIM-capable device – see the brand lists below.
  • Unlocked – not tied to a specific carrier. If your phone is carrier-locked, ask your provider to unlock it.
  • Latest software – install current iOS or Android updates before you travel.

How to check if your phone is unlocked

iPhone

  1. Open Settings > General > About.
  2. Find Carrier Lock. If it shows No SIM restrictions, your iPhone is unlocked.

If it shows otherwise, contact your carrier to request an unlock.

Android (Pixel, Samsung, etc.)

  1. Insert a SIM from a different carrier or add a travel eSIM.
  2. If calls or data work, the phone is unlocked. If you see a “SIM locked” or “Network unlock” prompt, it is locked.

Menu paths vary by brand. You can also ask your carrier to confirm unlock status.

Important notes and regional caveats

  • United States iPhone models: iPhone 14 and newer sold in the U.S. are eSIM-only and do not have a physical SIM slot.
  • China mainland models: many iPhone and some Android variants sold for mainland China do not support eSIM. Hong Kong and Macao variants may differ by model.
  • Dual SIM: most recent iPhones and Pixels support two active lines. Availability can depend on device and carrier.
  • Wearables: Apple Watch and some Samsung Galaxy Watches use eSIM but require plan support from the watch’s paired carrier. Planet eSIM data plans are for phones and tablets.
